I just didn't want to get dressed today. I worked out this morning and took the kids to the park and then laundry was the only thing on the agenda. But I do try to practice what I preach!
And that's how I arrived in my LSD today. I mean, what's easier than a striped tee shirt that just happens to be long enough to count as a dress?!
My secondhand option is Old Navy's fitted tee dress and has been re-issued each year for several years now. I went up two sizes from my typical dress size because I don't need it to be that body con. The silhouette is up to you - choose what you feel great in (fit & flare, fitted, swing, etc) - but I want to sell you on the stripes.
Reasons for stripes:
1) They are timeless, not trendy and therefore can easily be sourced secondhand.
2) The width, variation, and direction can make them flattering for anyone.
3) They are an easy print to mix with other patterns so if that's your jam, you're already halfway there. And this is the best part -
4) they camouflage bumps, lumps, and stains! Maybe this isn't the best part for you, but I definitely have all these situations happening with three kids.
Recently on Instagram stories I asked what you need more help styling - day-to-day looks or night out options - and although the votes were close (45%/55%), OOTN help was most requested. So although I wore mine for a super casual day of chores around the house, I wanted to share styling suggestions that will help you take a LSD to lunch or dinner.
A day with the kids or around the house requires minimal styling. Just throw on some (faux) leather flip flops and grab your mom bag.
Take the striped tee dress out to lunch with a slightly elevated flat sandal (think studs, pattern, cool texture), a few easy layered necklaces, and a satchel. Add a little extra flair with a scarf - tie it as a headband, around your neck, or on your handbag handle.
For a kid-free dinner option, I mixed in a snake print clutch and some tassel earrings. I went with fun, but walkable, block heel sandals because if your date nights are anything like mine, you may end the night with a stroll around Target. (Tell me we're not alone!?)
The LSD's ability to go super casual or dressy casual makes it an awesome option for most summer vacation packing lists. It will also layer like a champ and transition easily to the fall.
Do you already own a LSD you love or have I convinced you to be on the lookout for one?
