Work Your Wardrobe - Mix It Up

One of the best ways to pump the breaks on fast fashion is to wear what you already own. Most of us have a closet full of great options, we just have to make the most of them.

A mixed set like this one from Old Navy (about 3 years old) is a great starting point for a mini capsule or vacation packing list. If prints aren't your thing, you can replicate this look with matched solids. I included an all-black look in my 7 Easy Summer Outfits to copy that you can download here.

Wearing a matched top and bottom together creates the look of a dress or romper (without the unfortunate bathroom situation) and can typically be dressed up with the right shoes and accessories.

Swapping in a casual pair of shorts or cutoffs is perfect for a day of errands, kid-friendly activities, or other mom life duties.

The other option is to use the skirt (or shorts) and mix it up with a different top. I've worn this skirt with a simple black tank (seen here) or even a gray tee. Sometimes it's fun to find a print top that includes a similar color to your set and play with patterns. In this example I chose the bright blue (and even included a sequin palm leaf) but I've also done a thin black and white stripe for a more subtle mix.

As you can see, starting with a matched set gives you a bunch of great options that can be dressed up or down. Add some solid tops or bottoms - even some coordinated prints - and you're set for a weekend away!

Do you have a matched set that you wear together and mixed up?
