Now And Then - J. Crew Factory

Whether you're (trying to be) content with your current wardrobe or need a few new pieces thanks to changing sizes or roles, we all do better with a closet that works smarter and not harder.

In this new monthly series, Now and Then, I'll select a few items from a retailer's New Arrivals section and show you how to style them for the current season and the next. Use the looks as inspiration to shop your own closet or snag a featured item knowing it will add value and versatility to what you already own.

This month, I selected items from J. Crew Factory, one of my favorite retailers for cute, on-trend, but very wearable clothes. The four items I selected range in price from about $25-60, but J. Crew Factory has ever-rotating promotions so prices can fluctuate.

These basics (in some cases with a twist - or tie) could be just the refresher you need to help your winter wardrobe last a few more weeks and transition it right into spring!

Striped Dress

Now - Add a cardigan (pile on the stripes or go wild with leopard), tights and some riding boots (under $30!) or even wellies to make this dress wearable while there's still a chance of snow.

Then - Tie a scarf around your neck and throw on a pretty green field jacket to top this flattering dress. A flatform espadrille is a cute and comfortable way to let your toes see some sun!

Green Chinos

Now - Sage-y green chinos add some freshness to your layered, tried-and-true neutrals. Yes, leopard is a neutral.

Then - Happy is the word for a pre-knotted (postpartum belly-friendly) lavender tee. Easy slides and a canvas tote are perfect for a day out in the warm weather. P.S. Put a roll or two on the bottom of the pants for an extra casual vibe.

Gingham Tie-Waist Shirt

Now - High-waisted black skinnies are a perfect match for the tie-waist shirt and so chic (and easy) with these SUPER comfortable black mules (less than $12!). If you need an extra layer, you can't go wrong with a chunky knit cardigan.

Then - A straw fedora with black ribbon detail covers that third-day hair, I mean, coordinates so well with the classic black and white gingham. I swear by these sidewalk skirts (hello elastic waistband!) and a simple black sandal once the warmer temps hit.

Striped Tie-Sleeve Tee

Now - Top this darling tee with a slim puffer vest so the sleeve details aren't lost. Dark wash skinnies and low-heeled booties are so basic, but in a good way.

Then - If you don't believe me when I say you need to "one-hand tuck" this tee into these dark olive pants, just see how J. Crew Factory did it. In the event actual flowers haven't arrived yet, you can add them on your ears and toes to create the prettiest look.

Well shoot, now I really can't wait for the longer days and sunny skies of spring. Is there an item you're wearing now and can't figure out how it will transition to warmer temps? Or have you picked up a spring-y piece, but are dying to wear it now? Let me know what you need help with in the comments! Your item could be featured in the March "Now and Then" post.
