I'm not saying you should get rid of your favorite "little black dress", but as the weather warms up I'd like to suggest a new go-to for all of your (casual) dress-worthy events.
A little chambray dress (LCD) is such a great piece for spring and summer because it matches so many of the outdoor, casual, but fun events. An LCD can work for a wide range of occasions - everything from backyard BBQs to graduation parties. Swap out accessories to dress it up or down and customize it for each setting.
I wore this one to a casual dinner/movie date recently. The swing silhouette came in handy when I sampled nearly every item from the amazing menu at Ananda - and we're going back for Mother's Day brunch! But it could work equally well with some bright accessories for a Cinco de Mayo celebration or a casual park wedding.
Top L to R : released hem shirt dress // boho tassel shift dress // utility shirt dress
Bottom L to R: embroidered dress // shirt dress with tie // bow sleeve dress
There are so many LCD styles - button-front (great for nursing mamas), tie-waist, long-sleeve - at really reasonable price points that it's hard to argue why you shouldn't have one in your closet!
What LCD style is your favorite?
